Another way to think about it is that F maybe partially full with loyal customers that have significant MQD's who fly Delta all year long, encourage their employees to use Delta and also bring their extended family with them on Delta for vacations. Which is more $ them then an occasional walk up. I don't want a constant battlefield, I like to know where Im sitting and I move my seat around depending on the route I'm flying.
Also, my experience is that Delta always keep a few seats open for walk ups. If those seats are gone it's because they were sold. If just 1A was open then those people "walked up" sooner than you did.
ps- I can't stand 1A either, I don't get why people like to sit there.
+1, except for not liking 1A. 1A on CRJ-700/900s is my favorite seat in the domestic fleet.
