amazing Yamato Tak-yu-bin

I find it absolutely amazing how quick and cheap Tak-yu-bin is. At least from an American perspective, where shipping a suitcase (check-in size, not carry-on) would cost a fortune easily, and not get anywhere quickly.

I was in Hakone (a little south of Tokyo) and shipped something at the Hyatt that morning, maybe around 9-10am. By that evening when I called my next hotel in Sapporo it was there. That is absolutely mind-blowingly quick (note, when I left the hotel an hour later I did see a Yamato truck, and quipped to my friend it had gone to pick up my suitcase).

For reference, it took me two hours to get to Tokyo from Hakone via train (I took the Odakyu line, which isn't shinkansen, but to get to Odawara which has the shinkansen one would have to take another train anyway, or drive at least half an hour). And from Tokyo to Sapporo by shinkansen is 9 hours (because the last two legs are limited express; the shinkansen in Hokkaido isn't running yet). So even if shinkansen trains took cargo, my suitcase couldn't have made it so quickly.
Which means driving wouldn't be possible, because that is slower than shinkansen (from Hakone it is about 1300km).

The only way it can be possible is via airplane. But since when was cheap consumer packages airlifted?

And the kicker was it cost 1800yen. About $15 US. Which is good enough to ship a suitcase in the US to ... next door.
