Why is the 5/3/1 day in advance upgrade actually (still) in effect? Isn't it more fair if the battle gets fought at the gate so last minute high yield buyers can still walk up and buy?

Should I care about the claimed "benefit" to clear x days in advance?
It only happens inconsistently anyways.
This situation is the whole reason FCM is coming.

More often than not, and upgrades do not happen often for me, my upgrades don't clear until the day of at the gate. And then it is most often the bulkhead or, my favorite from the Christmas weekend, the last row of F with two hyperactive kids behind me in C+ kicking my seat for an hour. Sounds to me like F had been pretty full anyway.
