Marriott Teaneck at Glenpointe (room updates & M Club)
This is my 5th stay in this hotel since May 2015 and I sincerely hope it's my last.
My stays in this hotel have been a minimum of 3 nights to 2 weeks.
They are currently updating the rooms. What was once a comfortable room with a nice size couch and a full set of dresser drawers has been reduced to a "chaise" for a lack of a better word and 1.....YES.....1 drawer (a small shallow drawer) & 1 shelf in the cabinet next to that drawer.
But there is a desk long enough to do who knows what on?!?! I guess you could put 5 laptops next to each other on it if you wanted!?!?
The lighting is absolutely horrible. A desk lamp, 2 night stand lamps and a big overhanging lamp over the chaise.
Next to the chaise is a stainless steel pseudo side table/lap top desk I guess. The night stands are basically a shelf on either side of the bed. So no drawers.
The room is SO BIG there is entirely too much wasted open space. (Fill it with a proper set of drawers for crying out loud!!)
Now let me describe the M Club. Marriotts concierge lounge replacement.
YES the lounge at the hotel was on the small side but they offered amenities we are all used to. They took the open area to the left when you enter the hotel that was basically a space for anyone to use, order drinks, food and just relax.
Now they have partitioned this area off with 2 doors that require an extra room key to enter. Food & beverage amenities are now limited. Over the past 3 nights we've had the same macaroni & cheese "appetizer" offering that is now portioned controlled. Same 3 types of hummus each night. Coconut shrimp was placed individually on a itty bitty serving plate. So if you wanted 4 you also had 4 itty bitty serving plates to deal with. Desserts are now served in a tall shot glass. No more desserts we are used to.
Breakfast offering are still the same. So no changes here, yet.
Because this former open space is right next to the entrance it was rather cold in the morning from the revolving door and 2 other doors being opened. There are 3 large TVs and the volume on one near where we were sitting was so loud they eventually had to shut the TV off because the volume couldn't be turned down. Also they are playing music overhead so this area was rather loud in the morning.
Because I've been here 5 times in the past 7 months there are a few hotel employees who recognize me and vice versa. I've commented that these new changes are not appealing and they have said that I'm not the first to say this.
I also stated I'm irritated by the constant HELLO from multiple hotel employees as you enter or exit or simply walk through the lobby every time. I swear that 6 employees had to say HELLO to me from the minute I came through the revolving door and walked to the check in desk.
A coworker and I had just exited the elevators and are walking through the lobby talking to each other and one of the employees spied us and made a bee line right for us just so he could say HELLO !!!
Good grief ...... back off !!!
I was told that Marriott wants to impose this constant barrage of HELLOs system wide. If so I've found the perfect deflection technique. Keep your phone in your hand and just look down at it as though you're busy reading an email or text message.
