I believe that in the past First Class was worth it. My only close encounter with Diana, Princess of Wales was during the early days of her engagement when she & I were on the same First Class section of a train. Not that we had a chat! We were the only passengers in that section of the train and left each other alone.

I don't buy First Class now unless it is part of a special package holiday.
