So I was on flight 1654 yesterday LAX-ATL. The GA was trying to buy folks off the plane and needed 4 at $600 due to oversold and weight restriction. (For once I had no luggage and could take a bump, but the GA wasn't able to get the flights I wanted.

I would have been happy to be rebooked on AAnother AAirline, but we know that story.)
But I'm puzzled for an eastbound 738 to be weight restricted. Our flight time shows as 4:14, so maybe we didn't have the usual tailwinds, but we didn't have a 5 hour flight as is often the case westbound.
In any case, I'm not sure if anybody actually got the VDB. There was a younger guy (and tall maybe 6'10") that signed up for the bump, and I saw him board. I asked what happened, and he said they told him they didn't need his seat after all.
Just curious if anybody has any insight for this particular flight, or as to why an eastbound 738 could be weight restricted.
