For Microsoft it seems to be. Google in the past has complained when I removed it. I did remove it to add the SPF record.
If I want to set up both SPF and DKIM, then, I can't. The DNS spec allows it. Plenty of domains do it. Why doesn't Google allow it? That's what I"m annoyed about.
