CI has 2 744s with 70C/319Y layout. The rest of 7 744s have 12F/49C/Y319 or 314 layout. If you saw 12 seats at nose section, those are the original First Class. If you saw 18 seats at nose section, those are business class seat.
That's really fascinating. I thought that most people would want to sit on the UD. If CI elites get to sit on the UD with J seats but pay a Y fare, that's a huge benefit! I imagine that they receive Y service in terms of food, etc. If they get J service, then I may want to try to score a seat upstairs -- I'm such an airplane geek
