I've been to a few weddings where there was a block at a Marriott property and have always received my points. Unless your situation is different, from what I seen the "block" is just a negotiated group rate of X rooms. From my experience it's no different than using any other rate code.

As stated, the guests will most likely receive points/stay credits. While I'm sure it is possible, I don't think I've ever seen a small group rate like this wedding to negotiate away points/stay credits.
