I'd say you have an excellent chance - you just need to call up the GGL line and ask if you can use one of your guest list redemptions to upgrade to CW on the flight. They will deduct some avios from your account and hey-presto you'll have a CW ticket.
The 'CCR team' consists of special services who, if they are at their desk, will likely not give you the time of day, and the front desk agents who won't have a clue what you are talking about.
