The problem is that Air Canada wants all the benefits without living up to its obligations.
See this is where I think we need to determine what is "reasonable."
If AC has a contracted rate at the ALT at YYZ for $100/night, and offers you a voucher, you can of course turn it down. But going to the Sheraton for $400/night is no longer reasonable. Yes, I'd like the SPG stay credit too. But I'm not going to turn down the ALT. It's nice. It's a short walk from the free train.
But as others have said, I've never been sent to a horrible hotel.
I mean I can ask "What if the AC employee punches you in the face, steals your bag, and runs away?" But I've never heard of that happening either.
We now have one report of someone saying they were denied more than $100. However, that was a cancellation due to weather. They're not technically obligated to provide anything, unless this person is an intercontinental premium cabin passenger, or *G on an intercontinental trip. AC is generally very good with in-transit passengers though.
But even after pointing out how his situation is NOT covered by the regulations, I'm a little skeptical because it's someone who just joined and has made exactly one post, and it was within an hour of me saying it's all been hearsay so far. But I'll take him at his word.
Even in that situation, I don't think what I'd want is for them to be willing to pay $500/night for a hotel. I'd want them to have more staff on hand dealing with the situation so they can rebook passengers and hand out vouchers with less than a 4 hour wait.
So where are all these people who were stranded for
controllable events and only offered $100 reimbursement? People come on FlyerTalk to whine about everything as their first and only post, then run away, never to be seen again. So why haven't we heard any of these complaints?
