I don't really understand why able-bodied adult couples need to be tethered to each other for flights. Families with children, absolutely. And in genuinely elderly couples there is often one partner acting in more of a caregiver role. But ordinary adults? Do you demand to be allowed to work at adjacent desks, too? Do you refuse to be seated separately at dinner parties? Have you genuinely forgotten how to entertain yourself for a few hours?
What if someones partner is a nervous flyer ?? Or maybe on their honeymoon? Or one of the couples' birthday? Wedding anniversary etc etc.

Call me a romantic, but if I book a business class flight with my girlfriend (or even economy come to think of it), with a 'premium' airline like BA, I do not expect to be seated at either side of the aircraft.

The flight I gave as an example before (to Malta) was one where I was on standby with my app 24 hours before and selected the last two seats together in the Cabin. It was confirmed. And due to a BA technical hitch we learnt upon arrival at the airport check in desk that we was seated apart. That is below poor customer service !

I think in premium cabins everyone should be able to book a seat at least 7 days in advance. or BA automatically reserve seats together for couples travelling.

Luckily I have since achieved bronze, so the next club Europe trip I am making with 3 other members of the family, should be much more stress-free as I can select the seats 7 days in advance.

Again unless I was in the front row, emergency exit, or something like a swap from row 2 to 7 was requested I would never refuse ! Its just mean and petty.

Its nice to be nice people ! Share the love ...
