I don't think you get any extra Avios for booking through BA, unless it's a flight+car deal. I still seem to get the same amount of Avios for booking through Avis anyway, providing I remember to add my BA number as I don't seem to be able to get it to store with my Avis account.
I agree that you can get better prices through BA though.
