Additional information (added later) - the easiest way to get to Parsonage Road is to go down to the short-term car park... turn right... walk all the way to the end of the car park, then walk along the road to the roundabout (and that little bit of road is, in fact, a dual carriageway - so what I said before wasn't entirely correct). You should already see the big roundabout at that point - it's only a couple of hundred yards away. Turn left at the roundabout to leave the airport site. There is a mini roundabout 100 yards further along, take the second exit. You are now in Parsonage Road which takes you straight to Takeley.
Fair enough. However, you're still talking a walk of at least 1.5 miles (25-30 minutes) from the terminal as far as the Four Ashes whilst negotiating several roundabouts and no real pedestrian consideration. Off the top of my head, parts of this walk have no footpaths and so you're walking along potentially quite muddy verges.

I'd still take the 42A bus to the Four Ashes, takes 5 minutes, then enjoy the more relaxing part of the walk to Hatfield Forest from there.
