I will travel with my wife and son (5y) on LX 181 on 10th of Feb from BKK to ZRH and we are booked in Y (K fare). Any idea of realistic chances to upgrade from Y to C? I know it will be hard, especially for 3 personens but I want to know about your thinking.
I am M&M member (FTL) and have ~90.000 Miles on my account, I was thinking of an upgrade at the Airport since my wife also has birthday on the same day! So maybe someone has recent experiences at BKK Airport?
I would think best solution would be upgrade with miles and cash (e.g. per person 25.000 miles + 450€) but since my wife booked K fare I am not sure we can do anything since it seems we are booked in most cheapest fare, which allows nothing (economy saver)
Thank you in advance for your help!
Michael
You have 4 possibilties:
1) Upgrade from K to the lowest available RBD (S) that allowes mileage upgrades and make a mileage upgrade from there.
2) Upgrade to the lowest available Business RBD (P if prebooking period kept or Z on shorter notice).
3) Buy an upgrade at the airport for CHF1400 (converted as daily rate) per person. Can only be done on day of departure at Airport ticket desk.
4) If Economy on your flight is overbooked lower upgrade amounts may be offered starting 5 hours before departure but right now it does not look like this feature may become available on LX181 on 10 Feb.
Option 1 and 2 may be refused at first when calling Swiss as K-class fares in most cases are not-rebookable. Ask for an exception via superior if you get ressistance as in the end you want to spend more money and thats certainly in Swiss' interest. Also the amount you have to pay depends on your original fare, routing, date bought. K to S is in the region of USD 250/300 per Person and K to P around USD800/900 and K to Z around USD 1300/1400 per Person. Child reduction may apply.
