I believe you misunderstood the findings of the Orbitz pricing data and the Northeastern study -- though to be fair, so did CNET. Orbitz noted that Mac users tend to spend more, and so it displayed pricier hotel properties more prominently for them. There was never any suggestion that Orbitz or any travel retailer was charging more at the same instant for the same room on the same night based on your device profile. ("Orbitz executives confirmed that ... the company isn't showing the same room to different users at different prices.")

There is no evidence that UA or any travel retailer is practicing price discrimination based exclusively on device. I don't mean any disrespect, but my experience tells me this is merely a glitch.
