I just got my 2016 GS rejection notice from United. My stats again for 2015 are:
PQM: 304,623
PQD: $36,274
PQS: 101
Lifetime Miles: 3,873,221
Base airport: BOS
I have 2 trips scheduled to Asia this month, NRT and SEL, both from BOS, so I will be above 3.9M lifetime by Feb 1st. I figure by July they will finely be forced to make me GS, which will be the first time that I've been GS since the 1st year of the program.
Honestly, once I hit lifetime GS, which has been kind of an emotional goal, I will be able to fly on the Star Alliance for the long haul legs most of the time while still getting all the GS benefits. Most of the inter-Asia and inter-Europe is already done by local carriers today anyway. The service and food are almost always superior to United so unless I'm upgraded there will be little reason to fly United.
