Laptop GPS receiver and Microsoft Autoroute Express? It will be hard (impossible??) to get Autoroute express in the USA. CompUSA sells small USB GPS receivers for around $129.

Another option is a Garmin or Magellan GPS with basemap of Europe and add the maps into it's memory that you'll be needing.
But have you considered just buying a good map???
