Many times when I've asked for a convertible, it's been "you want *that*?" I don't think I've ever been denied a convertible when I've asked except the Camaro SS a couple times when they were just in the fleet ~6 years ago. However, I have never asked for a convertible at LAX but I'd guess they'd give you one if you ask (and it's available for rent).
