I got a heads up from someone about this thread, so here's my two cents...

I've spent over 600 nights in airports over the past 40 years and with few exceptions have no regrets. That said, my background and lifestyle have no problem accepting a night in the airport - be it from the perspective of safety, comfort or self esteem.

One big difference between me and most people who overnight in airports is that I plan to do so and thus come prepared with a Thermarest pad, a good wool blanket, pillow, headlamp, alarm clock and eyeshades. I put my wallet deep into my daypack and then put my pillow atop that. I've had great success with this method and sleep quite comfortably.

But that's me and I'm comfortable with it. If you're not, and especially if its not a big financial burden to get yourself a hotel, then I'd say go get the hotel. As for safety, unless you're in some third world backwater, most airports in developed countries that are large enough to stay open all night are perfectly safe - all the more so if you're able to stay airside.

However it works out, here's wishing you a good trip.

P.S. I'll be sleeping in an airport on Monday night.
