4 hours longer on the plane and you can be in the Caribbean. I really think it's worth it if you are going for a week - even with children. The weather in the Canaries can be really ropey at that time of year and, as discussed, the choice of high end accommodation is limited at best. Sugar Beach in St Lucia or Carlisle Bay in Antigua would be examples of smart child friendly hotels with non-stop flights from London.
