I am traveling with passport from Nepal. As a passport carrier from 3rd world country most of the time I am treated as second class citizen so I avoid dealing with immigration control during transits as much as possible. So the idea of getting visa waiver as Nepali citizen without hassle almost sounds unreal to me.
I am traveling from KTM(Kathmandu) and arriving at CTU at 18:45(Dec 31) and leaving for SFO next day at 10:55 am(Jan 1). Also, I just found out looking at the schedule of flight online (not shown in my itinerary) I have stop over at LXA(Lhasa) at 15:55 so I am still under 24 hr limit when I leave from CTU at 10:55 am next day.
I just need someone to confirm that my itinerary is safe for getting 24hr TWOV; also it would be nice to hear from anyone who has first hand experience at CTU since most experience posted in this forum seems to be about PEK or other airports. Am I safe to book a hotel in Chengdu so I can get some sleep and may be do some sight seeing in Chengdu Downtown? Also, on the side note any recommendation on hotel around downtown?
Just a update since I have first hand experience now. I had to go through entry process in Lhasa. I was taken to interview room but I wasn't really asked anything. I just needed to show them my ticket and a valid document that would let me in to my final destination(USA).They stamped 24 hour temporary entry permit without any hassle. They were very pleasant to deal with. Didn't need to go through any immigration process at Chengdu Airpot while getting in.
