Heh, the one I went to recently was pretty much the opposite. After I tapped my Wells Fargo Visa (tapped the card itself rather than using Apple Pay as I already had my wallet out to have him scan my Staples Rewards card), the screen said to show card to cashier but I'd already put it back in my wallet, so I asked if he needed to see it and he said he didn't because I'd tapped rather than swiped.
