The fewer, the better. I've experienced varying levels of announcements, but last week on our DL flights to and from SJU, every announcement was repeated in Spanish (this was odd to me because this was the first time this happened to me on a DL flight). It got old real quick when the guy saying the Spanish announcements would pause every 20 seconds (resuming the AVOD) only to begin again (pausing the AVOD), not to mention it took forever. And I don't understand much Spanish, but after the FA made an announcement hawking an AMEX, I can only assume he went on to repeat that. So if the credit card solicitations weren't enough, the rapid-fire Spanish duplicate made it more annoying. We did have one good experience on our final leg, where the captain came out to the interphone and spoke to everyone before we pushed back.

What I don't understand is why the pilots give a weather briefing (whether it's enroute or at the destination). I mean 20 years ago it was nice to know if it'd be raining or whatnot, but I can get weather on my phone. I also think it's a bit odd that they basically read everything off the METAR. When I'm doing the flying, it's important to know the winds, temps, ceiling, visibility, etc. But as a passenger, I don't really care that there are slight winds out of the SSE and the ceiling is 3000 feet.
