Well, how about the fact that there is an International ATM Alliance?

In short, if you have an account with one of the member banks, you may withdraw money from another member's ATM in their country, obtain the interbank rate, and NOT pay any fee.

I use this service whenever I can, along with charging most everthing else.

In the interests of disclosure, I am a former BofA employee and work for another financial institution.
