Hello, I'm new here, but in reviewing some older threads did not find this topic covered. I'm also not an experience International traveler, so please be patient with me.

I'm planning a trip to Ireland this summer with two of my children. One of them does not have his passport yet, but will by the time we fly. Ethiopian Airlines seems to require a passport number when booking the ticket online. When I called and spoke to a representative he said I could just put any number in there and once he got his passport I could get back online and change the number.

Does that seem the proper procedure in this situation? Did I misunderstand what he told me? I don't want to run into trouble down the line for using an incorrect passport number and have there be a problem with his ticket.
