I had a similar discussion with one of the doormen (while I was waiting outside for a Lyft). I found the hotel to be very cool (almost cold) in its contemporary design. I may be wrong, but I think it's catering to a (middle/far) eastern market demographic. Nothing at all wrong with that, just not my cup of tea. If I want that vibe, I'll stay at a W.

I used to stay at the Stanhope (a PH property up on 5th Ave on the upper east side back in the day) and that's really more what I'm personally looking for from a PH--more similar to a Ritz. I would like to see the Andaz line own the contemporary model and allow the PH's to reflect more of an old money look/feel myself, but what do I know?

In this neighborhood I prefer going to the Mandarin Oriental, the lobby lounge has an amazing view.
