What would you do one day in London?
Slightly OT but I’ll give this a try since there are so many expert folks around…
I’m going to surprise my dad with a birthday day trip to London one Sunday this February. He has been to London a few times already but the last trip was more than 15 years ago.
I’m going to put a schedule together on what I’m sure he would enjoy:
1. take the HEX to Paddington – he’s a big train buff and both of us have never used the HEX service. Advance purchase already completed.
2. He likes classic music and churches, so my plan would be to tube from Paddington to Westminster Abbey for the Sunday mass with choir.
3. After that we’ll hit a traditional fish and chips restaurant (sit down dinner) – I read good reviews of Poppies (2 locations), anything you recommend, not too expensive and maybe close by to Westminster?
4. No plan for the remaining time in the city – maybe a museum? My dad is almost 80 years old but he’s in great shape, so waking is not an issue. Depending on the weather we may check out Hyde Park? Anything else you recommend indoors as a back-up?
5. Once back at the airport I’d like to show him GC lounge. Believe it or not but he was never in an airport lounge! I’m sure he’ll be surprised about all the free food and wine/champagne. The return flight is booked in CE and yet another “first” experience for my dad since he never flew anything else than economy. Cheers and some more bubbly to finish the day.
