I'm currently Silver Medallion w/ Delta. I'm moving from Minneapolis to Chicago in the next few months, and I am considering getting my status matched with United (if possible). If I do that, and I then purchase this flight as a Y fare, would I get an automatic upgrade to Business if there is availability? Would that work if I have a companion? That could save me quite a bit.
Edit: Nevermind. Unless I'm missing something, I see that CPUs don't apply to flights to Australia/NZ.
Correct the Y instant upgrade fare is for domestic flights.
If you are with UA and want to upgrade on an international flight you would need to hit 1K and use your GPUs...or you can book an economy ticket and also do a miles + $ copay. There are many threads here you may want to read about upgrading on l/h UA flights.
But if you are just hitting silver with DL it's quite a bit more flying and $ to hit 1K with UA.
