Honeymoon questions: OW flight is $3000 cheaper in reverse direction? Upgrades?
Hello,
I'm currently playing around with options for my honeymoon at the end of the year - we're thinking of going to New Zealand, with a stopover in Fiji.
Ideally, we'd like to do Fiji on the way back, but United is getting in our way! Currently, United is selling one-way business class seats on its new 787 SFO-AUK flight through early December. I'd love to fly in a 787 for such a long flight.
If we book a one-way ticket TO Auckland, United will charge us ~$5300. However, if we go to Fiji first, then fly directly home FROM Auckland, United only wants ~$2300.
What in the world would explain such a sharp disparity? A few hundred dollars, even a thousand, I could maybe understand. Can I expect the SFO->AUK fare to decline? Or should I jump on the AUK->SFO fare now, as it's absurdly underpriced?
Thanks in advance.
