In my opinion a pool is meant to 'cool down' from the heat.
When the air is 95°F (which is often the case in KL) a pool that is 'only' 80°F will obviously feel 'cold' during the first seconds, while 80°F is not cold at all...
I loved the pool there and we didn't think it was cold at all... The 'hot tub' on the other hand...was truly 'hot' (and that is ofcourse also very subjective...)
It is definitely subjective. Living in Singapore I am used to the climate in the region and prefer a pool that isn't quite as 'cooling'.
