If AA was marketing it as a premium economy cabin, then would compare it accordingly, but it chooses to market it as, even higher than most other areas, as 1st class ( not even business class ) and should expect to be compared as such
I'll take AA (or UA, or DL) domestic first over the sad shorthaul business product offered in most of Europe. Having a middle seat empty next to me, and getting an inflight meal, comes nowhere near the appeal of a much larger seat and more legroom.
Short-haul meal service is worth $15, at most.
