I can't say I can compare it with ground-based restaurants, simply because I've never had a legitimate Kaiseki meal.

However, based on my airline experiences eating in JL F (and this was from NYC, mind you!) was the best food I've ever had on a plane - compared to AA, CX, QR and QF in first, that's for sure.
