If anyone is considering the purchase of Premium economy on the BKK-HKT route, don't waste your baht. Better yet, pick any other option.
- No priority boarding on the flights
- No priority checkin at HKT. The airport checkin lines for TG and WE continue to be a mess with poorly organized and managed checkin processing. Amazing that the Dragonair flight to Hong Kong was able to organize its lines and to provide priority checkin service.
- Onboard service was nothing special and tended to disarray, with the FAs mishandling a situation with pax trying to move up to the premium section.
-Multiple safety issues, some serious, others just sloppiness.
The most glaring issue was the non respect for sterile boarding procedures. How the airline and the AOT still allow passengers boarding a flight to mingle with passengers disembarking from another flight is beyond comprehension. I literally had to push my way through people boarding another flight(after they had passed the boarding pass step and were walking on to the air bridge).
- The inflight snack would have been fine had there been enough loaded. It's somewhat telling that on a flight full of farangs, the non spicy option ran out after 2 1/2 rows. (Fortunately, I like Thai food and can do without the infamous TG catering tuna sandwich.)
I feel that the WE U option is a rip off if since the premium services are not available on the route. Even when TG mainline was operating more of the routes, the service was dismal and the reliance upon the packed hot buses to load pax. The improvement this time was that bags arrived within a reasonable time. I usually take NOK on this route and I confess to a fondness for NOK. I had to fly out of BKK and the other options were unavailable. Shocking that NOK uses TG services, yet delivers a much better product.
However, what sums up the state of the Thai Airways group of companies is that Thai Smile sent me a customer survey. It cannot be sent back because a "run time" error is generated. IMO this is an airline in need of experienced competent airline management and of proper supervision.
Fortunately, I don't have to go back to HKT for at least a few more years.
