Spa and Dining redemption struggles

Hi FT,

I recently stayed at a Hyatt that participated in the Spa and Dining redemption shown on the Hyatt website http://www.hyatt.com/gp/en/awards/diningandspa.jsp.

When checking out - the front desk agent ( who was very helpful and tried his best to figure this out ) had to call GP support - he was new to this type of redemption and needed some help handling it.

The GP agent he called was rude but that's a different topic.

I tried to redeem points for the ~ $700 in incidental spend my family and I had at the hotel as allowed in the program. I know this isn't the most efficient way to use points but anytime I can avoid spending $700, I'll give it a shot.

The FD, the GP agent and the GP Diamond line agent I called all stated that they only redemptions allowed are specifically and exactly $500 and $1000.
so if I wanted my ~$700 charge covered, I'd have to use 120K points.

I asked if the table on the Hyatt webpage could be used to tally up to the amount I need ( 60K + 20 K + 10 K ) and was told that the program only allows a single use of points and does not allow custom totals to be reached.

This seemed strange to me since the SPG redemption table is a math guideline and you can solve for any amount of spend that you want.

I've asked GP twitter and was told they would relay my concern to management.

Has anyone been able to use an amount of points in-between the $500 and $1000 redemption options ?

Overall I'm disappointed that the table is considered the only exact redemptions allowed rather than examples of redemption.
