So of course, I kept my receipts and boarding passes because i was expecting this (just so you know I lived in Colombia and know how things work or do not work) from Avianca. So i had to re request the mileage credit through UA and submit copies of my receipt and boarding passes, now almost 1 year since the date of my flights. Avianca never gave me the credits, despite the fact that UA agreed that the flights were qualified for mileage and confirmed I was on the flights. Because of my troubles, not only did UA give me the miles, the rep also gave me additional miles.
These sorts of flight credit issues can arise with any airline.
I've never had any problems with AV flights posting to UA, including two of them in 2015. In fact, the miles posted quicker from AV than they typically do for a UA flight.
And just for future reference, you don't make the credit request through the operating carrier (in this case AV) - you make the request through your FFP - in this case UA MP.
