I disagree, I believe that tipping requires begging and obsequiousness by the person serving. Also it has been proven that the actual amount tipped has very little to do with service provided and more to do with the person.
Also tipping divides the loyalty of the server. Do I give my employer my full loyalty or is it for sale to the highest bidder? If the latter then the employer will suffer.
For example, if a customer says give me a big serve of food/larger amount of alcohol in my drink and here's a few dollars then the server will comply. This is to the detriment of the employer who loses that product for sale to another customer.
