If you transfer your points to someone with a different Saga points account, the points in the other person's account will have a 3 to 4 year expiration date (depending on when you complete the transfer). The transfer costs $8. That might help.

This appears to have worked for a cheap way to extend. This transfer was almost instantaneous. You can transfer any amount of points for the same $8
