Just checked into the Grand Hyatt Atlanta for 4 days over New Years. Since we are traveling with friends and I rarely have stays past 2-3 days (weekend getaways), I knew that this was the perfect time to use a DSU. I was booked into an Executive Suite. It's a good thing too that I grabbed it when I did because the hotel quickly sold out of the suites given the holiday.
At checkin, I requested if they could give any complimentary upgrades (never hurts to ask). The agent looked but confirmed that the next suite level was sold out. It would have been nice to get it to show off to our traveling companions about the perks of being Diamond, but this suite will be just fine.
We got it on a BRG rate of $135/night while our friends booked a non-refundable rate on hotels.com at $144. I must say though, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this Exec Suite is. The living room area is a nice size especially for just 4 people. The attached bedroom is standard for a king room with a little hallway for the closet and bathroom. Toilet has attached "washing" system hooked to it.
Note that their Executive and Luxury Suites can be sold as a 2-bedroom suite with a connecting king room. I called a couple weeks back and requested that our friend's room be connected to our room. They haven't checked in yet so I can't comment on how their room looks (it's just a standard room though) but it connects to the suite through the living room. It was great of the hotel to take care of blocking these two rooms for us. They will definitely be pleasantly surprised too to have this extra area. It definitely beats sitting on someone else's king bed while we hang out during the days.
I haven't checked out the lounge yet but I will add another post later in my stay.
