What would be the basis for dispute if you did find out it was an award ticket?
Unless of course you had an agreement in writing with the merchant that it wasn't an award ticket, but I'd doubt they would do that.
Obviously if the airline canceled the ticket, that would be the basis for dispute (goods/services not delivered), but then you might very well exceed the 60-day/2-billing cycle limitation on most cards.
