I forgot to mention: I drank palm wine straight out of a fallen dead palm tree in the Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire). The liquid was fermented naturally in the trunk of the palm tree. It was very sweet. I did not detect the alcohol in it, and I do not drink alcoholic beverages as I do not like the taste of them.
One has to be careful because it is easy to drink too much of it, as I witnessed but not experienced first-hand!
