I had gotten a letter saying my AA Aviator Red annual fee would be billed if I didn't call by 12/31. I called yesterday, and the frontline CSR asked "so you're asking to cancel the card", and I said "well, I'm
considering cancelling, but I'm not sure yet depending on my options", and then they transferred me to a specialist. The specialist gave me two choices: downgrade to the no-fee card and lose benefits, or get the annual fee waived on the existing card for one year and keep those benefits. (This was after I explained that my Citi card duplicates some of the benefits.) I chose the latter.

Then they gave me a limited time 0% interest on purchases offer but I declined that, and then gave me a balance transfer offer but I declined that. Then i asked if there was any bonus miles offer but they said there is none showing as available in my account. So I just took the waiver and moved on. (And promptly put the card back in the virtual "drawer", given that I have no current bonuses on it.)
