I have always tried to give a benefit of a doubt that maybe status was not immediately evident looking at the screen at HP, however, yesterday I checking into Hyatt Place Dulles South/Chantilly and I happened to be standing in a position where I could fully see the screen the front desk clerk was looking at and I saw a big Diamond notification splash on the screen.
I suspect HP front desk agents are paid less and receive less rigorous training than at full service properties. Feels like shopping at 7-11 vs. Nordstrom. (Although there are occasional exceptions, such as HH SLC Downtown, where the service was excellent.)
I'd just like to
not be given a crappy room. That to me is the #1 most important theoretical benefit of status. Although it seems increasingly to require at least one phone call or trip back down to the front desk after I've been given said crappy room.
