Convenience. Laziness. Unawareness of the surcharge or ff incentives. Airline website is down.

In my case, I booked with Expedia for travel on CO (I wanted only to fly on CO) because CO's website gave poor routing options while Expedia gave me exactly what I wanted. Keep in mind too that I don't like dealing with people on the phone.
