Then there's the story of the pilot on an American plane landing at FRA and asking for directions to the gate. The tower gave him a very short, sharp response. The pilot re-queried to tower for more info.

The tower guy was very snotty. "Haven't you ever been here before?"

And the pilot answers "Yeah, but it was back in '44, and I didn't land."
