I want to fly from DAY to KTM this summer and have decided to go with Air India for a number of reasons;
That said, a problem with that is that AI's website will only let you book from major airports (like DEN) or airports served by AI, of which DAY is neither. If I were to book directly with AI I would likely have to create a separate reservation from DAY-ORD on UA. I asked whether it was possible to call AI's reservation center and book the whole itinerary on one reservation in
this thread and many people there suggested I go through an online travel agent.
Now, when I use AI's website to book ORD-DEL-KTM-DEL-ORD all four flights are in V class which credits 100% to OZ. When I use the ITA Matrix to to search search DAY-ORD-DEL-KTM-DEL-ORD-DAY however, two of the AI segments are in S and U class, which don't earn any miles for OZ. I then went to Orbitz where it is supposedly possible to view fare classes but I wasn't able to find them, and then I went to Travelocity where a mixed UA/AI itinerary was for some reason over $5,000. Now I'm on AmEx travel where I was able to get the whole route for $2,075. The only reason I haven't gone ahead and pulled the trigger because I don't know what fare classes these are being booked in. I believe on both Orbitz and Travelocity fare classes can be found by clicking "fare rules and restrictions" or something similar but I didn't see a link like that on the AmEx Travel website.
