We booked a package vacation from AA many years ago to Aruba. It was supposed to be to the hilton on Palm Beach. Five days before we left we got a call that Wyndham had bought the hotel and they asked if we would still go since it would still be wonderful. We agreed. We arrived in Aruba and got to the hotel. It had rained the night before (and every night after) and there was a little trench outside the front door where you had to cross a river to get in and out of the hotel. Got in, checked in, got to the room and it was horrible. TV concierge wasn't working, hotel had no real concierge, furniture was falling apart, a few baby cockroaches, unreal. But we decided to make the best of it. Well, put all out belongings in the safe deposit box one day while we were at the beach. Had tickets for a dinner cruise that night. Came back to the hotel, showered, went to the safe deposit room, they had no keys. The bell person had taken off with the key ring that had all the keys on it. We couldn't get our money, jewelry, tickets for the dinner cruise, etc. We were beyond angry, we were furious. And the hotel manager was calm as could be and tried to ignore us and he kept us waiting on the side as he took care of other people hoping we would vanish. The guy didn't come back for hours. Everything on that trip went wrong. It was so bad we went to TWO time shares, lol. Actually ended up having some great laughs looking back on that trip now. Did get a full refund after many letters and threats. Still laugh today thinking about all the other disasters on that trip.
