Bolding mine. having spent more than my fair share of time there in the winter and summer, flight delays/cancellations would be the only reason to overnight there. Go through the list and choose the items of most interest to you, do them and leave.
Food options are very basic, Chinese, Arctic Pizza and tend to a lot of canned and processed food. Arrive on AS 55 that lands at 10:57 AM and leave on AS 50 that departs at 6:32PM. That gets you back into ANC for a slightly late dinner.
Hotels are very expensive and may well be sold out already. You also run the risk of being booted from the hotel. I have had this happen twice when government dignitaries wanted to tour the area and took over the King Eider Hotel. The new Top of the World hotel is nice from what I have heard, but I have not personally stayed there. The old Top of the World was a pit that burned to the ground a few years ago. That was the best thing that could have ever happened to the place.
