I'm pretty sure the 2 letters at the start of the flight number is what matters. Most likely AM doesn't have codeshares on the new flights, so you'll have DL flight numbers and therefore DL earnings formula.
My best guess is that DL won't know what you paid, and will not automatically give your parents any credit for the trip. You will have to fax them your receipt, then you should be able to get miles per the DL formula. Getting miles per the AM formula will be difficult.
