I don't believe ET intentionally puts the newer planes with the lie flats on any specific route. I've seen a lot more of the old ones than the new ones, but 2 weeks ago my flights were 4 segments on 787 and just happened to be 50% new vs old. I actually don't think the old seats are so bad if you get them, I've managed to sleep just fine on them.
